Material

We asked ourselves, as a functional fabric manufacturer, what can we do to protect the environment? What can we do to protect our limited resources on earth? The answer we found was polyester that could return to earth using nature’s power.

Because this is a unique type of polyester, we are not yet able to apply this technology to all of our fabrics. However, we have already started to implement new approaches to various materials and are continually striving to develop functional and eco-friendly materials.

What are Functional Materials?

The functional materials we mainly deal with are made of synthetic fibers, such as nylon and polyester. These materials are necessary in harsh environments and our lives are built around the use of these fibers. They help us to climb Mount Everest, navigate Antarctica, swim faster, protect us from harmful UV rays, and help us warm and cool our bodies.

With the above said, polyester is known to be durable and dry quickly. As a result, even after repeated washing the fabric maintains its shape and does not shrink so consumers can wear the garment longer. This is an important element in the idea of sustainability – synthetic fibers were born as a substitute but currently they have evolved to exceed their original functions.

Is this a sustainable way of living?

Our current society thrives on a mass consumption model of selling and consuming large quantities of goods at a low price. This is the inevitable result of supply and demand. The fashion industry currently ranks 2nd in terms of industrial water usage and is responsible for 20% of marine pollution, an immense burden on the planet. With consumption comes the process of disposal, and clothing often ends up in landfills or is incinerated. Recycling methods have evolved over time but technological solutions are not up to the level to solve this waste crisis.

Our Vision

Of course, there are materials made from natural fibers with high function and performance. Unfortunately, they are rare and costly, requiring many natural resources and time and ultimately cannot meet the demand. Synthetic fibers on the other hand, meet this target and help maintain a balance.

Balance does not only pertain to the environment and pricing. Texture is an important component of clothing and the touch of fabric on our skin is part of our everyday life. Tavitalium has combined organic cotton and other synthetic fibers (including recycled fibers) to create fabrics with a gentler, natural feel, while still maintaining firmness and translucency.
